How to Surf the Web

Surfing the Web means moving from one Web page to another.

It's as easy as 1-2-3. Here's how:

1.
Find a Web address. Many addresses are included in articles, on package labels and in Web directories. Often you can locate a specific address by using a key word to search with a search engine such as Yahoo!, Excite, AltaVista or HotBot.

Some search engines are designed specifically for children. One you might want to try is Yahooligans! It can be found at: www.yahooligans.com. Once there, type in "White House" and click on "Search."

2.
Enter or click on an icon or on an underlined Internet address, or hyperlink, you want to visit.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/WH/kids/html/kidshome.html

This is the address of the White House for Kids, where they can learn facts about history, government and current events.

3.
When you're finished at that site, click on an icon or underlined topic provided at the site or copy another Internet address into your browser's location field.

Now you're surfing!
